Events – Observations-Paintings
Exhibition runs at IMMA from 24 March – 24 July 2016
Although IMMA is off the beaten track it is well worth a visit and frequently holds interesting exhibitions. It is currently hosting an exhibition of work by Patrick Hennessy RHA .
Hennessy was one of Ireland’s most successful post –war realist painters. He painted extensively with subjects ranging from traditional portraits to still lifes. However, he also created innovative and original works unlike anything else being produced in Ireland at the time. He fused realism with surrealism by painting human figures isolated in stark landscapes. These challenging, and at the time radical compositions, caused Hennessy to be branded as something of an outsider.
